Prostate Cancer data Base Sweden (PCBaSe), en unik databas för prostatacancerforskning

Prostatacancer är en sjukdom med extremt varierande förlopp beroende på tumörkarakteristika. Studier av prostatacancer måste därför innefatta tumörkarakteristika för att ge meningsfull information. I Nationella prostatacancerregistret (NPCR) registreras sedan starten av registret 98% av alla incidenta fall av prostatacancer i Sverige avseende tumörkarakteristika och behandling inom 6 månader efter diagnosdatum.

Via länkningar av NPCR med Cancerregistret, Dödsorsaksregistret, Patientregistret och Läkemedelsförskrivningsregistret på  Socialstyrelsen och Personregistret, LISA (socioekonomisk databas) och Flergenerationsregistret vid SCB har PCBaSe skapats för prostatacancerforskning. PCBaSe innehåller förutom alla fall av prostatacancer diagnostiserade sedan 1998 i Sverige också fem kontrollmän fria från prostatacancer för varje fall matchade för födelseår och bostadslän.

PCBaSe innehåller data avseende sjukhusvård, operationer, läkemedelsuttag, dödsorsaker och möjliggör undersökningar av bl a vårdmönster och kliniskt förlopp bland 150 000 män med prostatacancer. Sedan 2010 har mer än  200 vetenskapliga artiklar baserade på PCBaSe publicerats.

Ansvarig forskare för PCBaSe är professor Pär Stattin, Urologkliniken och Inst. Kirurgiska vetenskaper, Akademiska sjukhuset och Uppsala universitet.
